Leaders must provide the members of their groups with a clear vision and a roadmap to get there. They must also provide a sense of consistency and safety for members—a “holding environment” that allows members to manage times of uncertainty and difficulty. Solid leadership welcomes and creates change, and helps people embrace it. While the most effective leaders are strong and decisive when required, they also observe, listen, and communicate carefully, and encourage broad participation in the organization’s decision making. 
We believe that people at all organizational levels should provide leadership. Thus we work with executives and others to help them acquire and use solid leadership skills. At the same time, we help leaders create structures and systems that weave an optimal mix of personal accountability and collaboration into the fabric of the organization, and maintain that mix despite changing circumstances.
